Girl foils attempt to abduct five-year-old sister in Pusat Bandar Puchong
Charles Ramendran
PETALING JAYA (Jan 29, 2008): An alert 12-year-old girl foiled an attempt by a man to abduct her five-year-old sister in Pusat Bandar Puchong last week.

In the botched abduction, the girl and another sister claimed they saw a young boy tied and gagged.

The girls’ mother lodged a police report after the eldest daughter related the attempted abduction after returning home.

The Puchong Jaya housewife told police that she took her daughters, aged five, seven and 12, to a restaurant for dinner at about 9pm on Jan 21.

After eating their fair share of their dinner, her daughters stepped out of the restaurant to play on the walkway.

While the eldest of the siblings were playing with each other, a black coloured van pulled up and a man emerged and lured the five-year-old girl with a sweet.

When the girl took the sweet, the man tried to bundle her into the van. The eldest sibling then rushed up to pull her sister away, resulting in a minor "tug-of-war" with the abductor trying to pull her in too.

When two women passers-by checked the commotion and questioned the man, he let free his hold on the girls and sped away in the van.

The siblings mother did not know of the incident until the elderst daughter related the incident at home.

The eldest and youngest daughters also told their mother about the boy they saw sitting on the floor of the van. They also said the boy appeared terrified and in tears.

The housewife the sought the advice of Puchong Kinrara assemblyman Dr Kow Cheong Wei who told her to lodge a police report.

Kow said although the claims came from two young children, their story appeared to be consistent when questioned.

"Children can sometimes visualise things like this but both their accounts of the incident tallied. We urge the two women, especially the one who intervened and spoke to the man to come forward and help police in their investigations" he said.

Selangor CID chief SAC II Mazlan Mansor, who confirmed receiving the report, said investigations are ongoing on the case and urged witnesses to come forward.
