SINGAPORE: (Feb 12, 2008) : A gynaecologist who had an affair with a patient has been suspended for two years by the Singapore Medical Council, news reports said Tuesday.
Yeong Cheng Toh, a 43-year-old fertility expert, admitted acting improperly.

He also tampered with his lover's hospital records, failed to account for her visits and did not properly document her medical conditions and the results of examinations, The Straits Times said.
Yeong was involved with the woman between April 2003 and March 2005.

While noting that Yeong did not take advantage of the woman, the council said that all doctors must abide by a strict ethical code and are barred from having sex with their patients.
The hospital, not the patient, complained to the Medical Council, the regulatory body overseeing doctors in the city-state.

The council said in a statement that Yeong had brought disrepute to the profession. His conduct "transgressed the professional boundary between a doctor and a patient," it said.
To be reinstated, Yeong will have to apply to the council following his suspension. - dpa
