Report lodged with macc over flower deal
Charles Ramendran

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 16, 2009) :
The Federal Territory (FT) DAP lodged a report at the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) today over a RM32 million contract supplying flowers to City Hall for three years.

The report lodged by FT DAP secretary and special assistant to Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai follows a front report in theSun last Thursday that the contract had been terminated by the mayor.

The contract was approved by FT Ministry officials during the tenure of former mayor Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan at RM900,000 a month.

Loh came with a group of DAP supporters lodged the report at the Kuala Lumpur MACC headquarters at about 11am.

He said the award of the contract was questionable and urged the MACC to investigate those in City Hall and the ministry who were involved in signing the contract which was awarded to Syarikat Mulia and Syarikat Brightmark.

Loh also lodged a second report with the MACC over the contruction of a 600m road at Taman Metropolitan, Ulu Pudu by City Hall at a cost of RM7 million.

He said the federal government had allocated RM6 million for the project and this year an additioanl RM1 million was sought for additional works to the road.

"We inspected the road and found it to be uneven and crudely laid. The land used to be a plot of undergrowth and not a hillslope. Does such a road cost RM7 million to build?" he questioned.

He said the MACC should get the relevant experts in the field to inspect the road to determine if the cost of the road and other fittings such as streetlights and drainage would commensurate with the cost of RM7 million.

"We want to know the truth behind the award and costings of these contracts." he added.
