Jalan Tanjung closure: MBPJ liaising with state govt
Meena L. Ramadas.

PETALING JAYA (Nov 17, 2009) : The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is liaising with the Selangor state government for a decision on Jalan Tanjung, which was barricaded by Bandar Utama City Corporation yesterday morning.

Puasa Md Taib

Deputy Mayor Puasa Md Taib today urged the aggrieved groups not to rush into matters.

"We are considering all possible ways to resolve the problem. We are also liaising with the state," he told theSun.

Puasa said the council had submitted a paper detailing the views of the residents and both BUCC and Dijaya Corporation to the state government.

"So, it is up to the state government now to make the decision," he said.

He said the number of road users has to be considered as Jalan Tanjung is used by more than 1,000 vehicles every day.

"The residents have to be patient and wait for a decision to be made," he said.

They should allow the authorities to decide on the best solution for all the parties concerned.

BUCC had put up signs indicating that Jalan Tanjung would be made a one-way street on Friday and closed for good six months later.

Khalid Ibrahim

However, it closed part of its land on Jalan Tanjung in the early hours of yesterday morning, which caused a traffic jam along the road during the morning rush hour.

Yesterday evening, a group of about 100 representatives from 19 residents associations (RAs) staged a peaceful protest on the barricaded Jalan Tanjung.

The protest was one of four decisions made by the Action Group Against The Closure of Jalan Tanjung, Bandar Utama.

The others are to lodge a police report on the closure of the road, consider seeking an injunction against BUCC, and to confirm with Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim whether he and his state executive councillors would meet with representatives from the RAs on Thursday.

BUCC had granted access to the road to Dijaya Corporation, the developer of Tropicana, in 1993 when construction on Tropicana began.

The public has been using the roads for more than 10 years now and it receives heavy traffic flow from the areas of Kota Damansara, Tropicana and Sunway Damansara.
