Najib offers formula to resolve MCA crisis

KUANTAN (Nov 20, 2009):
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said he had proposed a formula to resolve the prolonged MCA crisis after meeting with the top leaders of the warring factions since yesterday.

He said the leaders involved were now considering the formula and he was confident that they would find it acceptable.

"The aim of the meetings was to find a common ground in resolving the crisis.

"I had proposed a formula that most probably would be acceptable to all quarters involved, with the hope that MCA would regain credibility and the confidence of party members and the Chinese community," he told reporters here today.

Najib said he had also informed Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to continue discussions based on the formula given, with the MCA leaders as he was scheduled to leave for Trinidad and Tobago to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Najib said based on his separate meetings with the MCA leaders involved, he was confident that the party's internal crisis could be resolved.

Asked when the three-month old crisis could be resolved and to elaborate on the formula he had proposed, Najib said: "Never mind, when they have agreed on it we will inform (the media). I think there is hope. We'll wait in the next one or two days, we want to resolve it soonest possible."

Yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, Najib said the MCA crisis which was becoming more serious must be resolved fast.

Earlier today, Naib had officiated at the handing-over of letters to representatives of mosque committees carrying out animal sacrifice for the Aidiladha celebration.

Three camels and 427 cows will be distributed among 55 mosques in the Pekan constituency.

Also present was Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob. -- Bernama
